LUTRON SC-941 acoustic calibrator for sound level meters and noise measuring instruments. It generates a standard 94 dB signal at 1000 Hz, with 94 dB ±0.8 dB accuracy, 1000 Hz ±2% frequency and IEC 942 Class 2 compliance. Suitable for 0.5" and 1" microphones, powered by 2 x 9 V batteries, with built-in battery check, 0.5" adapter, adjustment screwdriver and carrying case included.

The LUTRON SC-941 acoustic calibrator is a portable instrument designed to quickly check the response of sound level meters and noise measuring instruments. It generates a standard acoustic signal at 1000 Hz with a sound pressure level of 94 dB, allowing the technician to verify correct sound level meter operation before starting a measurement, during a periodic check or at the end of a survey.

The SC-941 model is suitable for professional applications where a simple and practical reference is required for sound level meter verification. The generated sound level is 94 dB ±0.8 dB, while the reference frequency is 1000 Hz ±2%. The 1000 Hz frequency is particularly important in acoustic checks because it is commonly used as a reference point for sound level meter calibration and microphone response verification.

The instrument complies with IEC 942 Class 2 and is suitable for routine technical checks, field verification, instrument maintenance and checks before and after sound measurements. The specified total harmonic distortion is ±2%, a useful value for assessing the quality of the signal generated by the calibrator. A stable signal makes it possible to check the complete measuring chain more reliably, including microphone, sound level meter electronics and reading system.

The calibrator is suitable for 0.5" and 1" microphones, making it usable with different types of sound level meters and acoustic instruments. The 0.5" microphone adapter is included in the supply. Before use, it is always advisable to check the microphone diameter and insert the capsule into the correct cavity, avoiding forced or off-centre coupling. Unstable coupling can cause less reliable readings or apparent variations in the measured value.

The cylindrical body with Ø 50 mm x 145 mm dimensions provides a compact yet robust structure suitable for use in laboratories, production departments and field applications. The weight of approximately 350 g including batteries makes the calibrator easy to carry in a technician’s tool case. Power is supplied by 2 x 9 V DC batteries, type 006P, MN1604, PP3 or equivalent, heavy duty or alkaline type.

The built-in battery check allows the power status to be verified before use. This is important because a low or insufficient battery can affect the stability of the generated signal and therefore the quality of the verification. Power consumption is approximately 7 mA, a low value suitable for periodic checks, site inspections and repeated verification work.

The operating temperature range of 0 ... 50 °C makes the calibrator suitable for many indoor environments, workshops, technical departments, laboratories and outdoor checks under compatible environmental conditions. To obtain more reliable results, it is advisable to avoid use in strong air currents, vibration, shock, condensation or very high impulsive noise near the instrument during verification.

Correct use normally involves checking the sound level meter before measurement and again at the end of the survey. This allows the technician to understand whether the instrument has maintained a stable response throughout the session. If an abnormal difference appears between the initial and final checks, the technician should inspect the microphone, batteries, adapter, sound level meter settings, possible shocks to the instrument and environmental conditions during measurement.

A practical recommendation is to keep the sound level meter and calibrator stable during verification, inserting the microphone without tilting it and without applying side pressure to the capsule. The calibrator should be switched on only after checking that the microphone is correctly inserted. The reading should stabilise quickly; if the value fluctuates excessively, the coupling, battery charge and absence of external disturbances should be checked.

The LUTRON SC-941 is useful for acoustic technicians, safety managers, maintenance operators, environmental consultants, laboratories, quality control departments and companies using sound level meters to monitor industrial, environmental or occupational noise. It can be used in workshops, production departments, schools, public authorities, test areas, machinery inspections and periodic checks of noise measuring instruments.

The supply includes the acoustic calibrator, instruction manual, 0.5" microphone adapter, adjustment screwdriver carrying case. This makes the instrument ready for practical technical use. The LUTRON SC-941 acoustic calibrator is therefore a simple, robust and portable solution for users who need to quickly verify sound level meters and noise measuring instruments at 94 dB and 1000 Hz, improving measurement control and reducing the risk of using instruments that have not been correctly checked.
