Gauge Block

The striker gauge blocks marketed and sold by Tadaah, are very useful accessories for the workshop and for all activities in assembly, machining at machine tools, research and development, control and use of measuring instruments. They come in different packages and in different materials. The most commonly used ones are made of high-quality stainless steel with excellent hardness. Their smooth, lapped surface allows the block to remain constant, accurate even for several years. They are usually purchased in steel for use in quality control chambers with a constant temperature of 20° so that there is no variation in block size as the temperature changes. (Consider that on average the expansion of steels generically averages 8 microns of change per meter per degree centigrade.) The use of the gauge blocks is very universal, the thickness of grooves, measurements of clearance or stops between two components, perfect measurement of slots on shafts, slots on slides, creation of masters for zeroing dial gauges for checking heights, checking errors and accuracy of dial gauges can be measured with exact accuracy, are good for accessing spaces inaccessible to other tools. In addition to being made of steel, there are versions made of ceramic material. Blocks made of ceramic material have the advantage of maintaining constant accuracy since it is not affected by thermal expansion, ensuring shape and size tolerance. They are excellent for performing master length calibrations for dial gauges, setting outdoor micrometers, checking pass/fail forks, and zeroing measuring instruments. However, the ceramic version also has downsides such as fragility and lack of collision resistance. They are usually sold in packs of blocks of different sizes and quantities, in both steel and ceramic versions. They can also be sold individually also with Accredia certificate.

Gauge blocks (or Johansson blocks) are extremely precise measuring instruments, available in three grades of precision.

Grade 0: Maximum precision
- Use: Metrology laboratories and calibration of measuring instruments.
- Tolerance: Minimal deviations, very tight tolerance.

Grade 1: High precision, but less than Grade 0.
- Use: Calibration of precision measuring instruments and for use in mechanical workshops.
- Tolerance: Greater than Grade 0, but still very tight.

Grade 2: Standard precision.
- Use: General use in workshops and laboratories, less critical for tolerances compared to Grades 0 and 1.
- Tolerance: Greater than Grades 0 and 1, but still adequate for many measurement applications.
