Standard and special cams for Gildemeister – DMG Mori multi-spindle automatic lathes are key components for machine kinematics management and full control of movements throughout the production cycle. They are designed for machines such as AS16, AS20, GM16, GM16AC, GM20, GM20AC, GM32, GM35, GM35 HIRTH, GM35AC, GM35/8, GM42, GM42AC and GS20, ensuring high reliability in high-volume precision machining.

Standard cams are available in various designs and functions. Disc cams are mainly used on mechanical multi-spindle lathes produced by Gildemeister Italiana, while desmodromic cams, machined from solid and equipped with dedicated gearing, are used on early GM16AC versions. Later machine versions adopt desmodromic cams mounted on plates, improving flexibility and adjustment accuracy.

Drum cams are also available for auxiliary functions such as collet opening and closing, bar feeding, bar stop and locking mechanisms, and are typically replaced during major maintenance operations.

Functionally, cams convert rotary motion from the camshaft into controlled linear motion through systems of levers, arms and shafts. This enables precise movement of front tool spindles, radial slides and axial slides. Cam profile accuracy and resolution directly influence machining precision, reducing backlash, form errors and dimensional deviations.

Radial cams control plunge turning, profiling and external machining operations, while longitudinal cams manage front-end operations such as drilling, tapping, die threading, broaching and part pick-up. Combined cam configurations allow complex axial machining, polygon turning and internal processing.
