In the section of measuring machines, we have projectors available for the inspection of profiles and threads, angular measurements, and dimensional measurements. The operation takes place by projecting the profile of a piece, the profile of a thread, or an angle onto a screen, using a combination of lenses and lights. By adjusting the focus of the lens and the light, the piece, being a solid, casts a sharp shadow on the screen, allowing the user to perform precise measurements of external profiles. This measuring machine is particularly useful in workshops, especially for inspecting small pieces.
Let's take an example of inspecting a thread. With the projector, we can measure:

• The pitch of the thread,
• The angle of the thread,
• The root radius,
• The core diameter,
• Check for the presence of burrs at the entry and exit of the thread,
• Verify that each thread of the thread is full and constant throughout its length,
• Verify if the thread is perfectly cylindrical.

Furthermore, through the plotting of drawings with rays executed on transparent paper, it is possible to detect correct dimensions of very small radii. The projector proves to be a very useful tool for measuring a few sample pieces and for checking pieces during the placement or setup of the machine tool; moreover, it has the advantage of being cost-effective to purchase. Using light technology, there are also measuring machines available that, through the use of a luminous laser, are able to automatically detect all external measurements of a profile quickly. These machines are also called optical measuring machines and have the ability to export the drawing of the piece projection to CAD. Being fast and accurate in measurement, they can also be used to create drawings detected from the profile projection or to check multiple measurements and pieces simultaneously. Equipped with software, they also allow for the collection of data relating to dimensions and profile measurements for tables or statistical calculations.
