The TRIBOS-RM polygonal chuck is designed for ultra-precise HSC machining in the field of micro-cutting, reaching speeds of over 85,000 rpm. Its anchoring structure ensures rigidity and stability, while a run-out of ≤ 0.003 mm guarantees surface quality and process reliability in metal cutting applications. Available in various sizes, it integrates perfectly into compact, dynamic machining centers, featuring SK30 DIN ISO 7388-1 AD shank, G2.5 balancing grade, and h6 tool shank.

The SCHUNK TRIBOS-RM SK 30 polygonal toolholder is designed for high-speed machining and precision micro-machining applications requiring maximum concentricity, dynamic stability and reliable clamping. The SK 30 interface according to DIN ISO 7388 (DIN 69871) ensures a rigid and secure connection with the machine spindle.

The TRIBOS clamping system is based on controlled elastic deformation of the internal polygonal profile. Using the TRIBOS SVP device, the clamping diameter is temporarily transformed into a circular shape for tool insertion. Once the pressure is released, the holder returns to its original polygonal geometry, clamping the tool shank uniformly and without backlash. This principle enables extremely high run-out accuracy of < 0.003 mm at 2.5 x D, ensuring excellent repeatability and surface quality.

The compact design and symmetric rotation structure provide stable performance at high speeds up to 85,000 rpm, with standard balancing G2.5 at 25,000 rpm (Umax < 1 gmm). The toolholder is designed for h6 tool shanks, ensuring high radial rigidity and reduced vibration.

Unlike HSK-E versions, this model features internal coolant supply according to ISO 7388 AD, allowing direct coolant delivery to the cutting zone, improving chip evacuation and thermal stability.

The toolholder is also prepared for an optional data chip seat and does not include axial length adjustment screws, maintaining a robust and simple design.

This configuration is ideal for precision machining, high-speed milling, micro-machining and HSC applications on SK interface machines.

Total compatibility Ideally combinable with TRIBOS SVL tool extensions
Constant concentricity and repeatability accuracy ≤ 0.003 mm
Reduced machine setup times and costs Fast and easy tool change with the TRIBOS-RM SVP clamping device
Excellent vibration damping Micro blowholes are avoided and better workpiece surfaces are achieved, the machine spindle is protected, tool life is extended and therefore costs are reduced
Symmetrical rotation design The rotationally symmetrical structure minimizes the interference contour and ensures a high rotational speed

TRIBOS-RM SK 30 – Technology and operating principle

Technology TRIBOS SVP actuation devices deform the polygonal shape of the toolholder until it becomes circular, making tool insertion possible.
When pressure is released, the toolholder returns to its original polygonal shape, securely and precisely locking the inserted tool shank.
Element 1 Anchor structure – The anchor structure ensures high stability
Element 2 Base body – The machine-side interface is located on the base body
Element 3 Compact design – For high radial rigidity and high run-out accuracy
Step 1 Polygonal clamping diameter – By using the TRIBOS SVP clamping devices and the corresponding actuation pressure, the polygonal clamping diameter of the toolholder deforms and becomes circular.
Step 2 The polygonal clamping diameter takes on a circular shape through actuation pressure, thus facilitating insertion of the tool shank.
Step 3 Insertion of the tool shank – When the pressure exerted on the clamping diameter is reduced, it resumes its original polygonal shape.
Step 4 Tool clamped – The inserted tool shank is clamped reliably with high repeatability accuracy.
