The DURO-M Rohm is a manual self-centering chuck featuring a flat spiral and a through bore, designed for single-piece or small-batch production in turning and milling operations. It is primarily employed on conventional horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines and rotary tables to machine workpieces via a chip-removal process. The chuck body is made of steel, with reduced weight and rotational inertia. Around its circumference an integrated drip rim expels coolant. This version features a short-taper mount ISO 702-1 (DIN 55026), DIN 55021, ASA B 5.9, A1/A2 metr.; mounting from frontImages shown are indicative and not proportional.

The DURO-M manual self-centering geared scroll chuck from Röhm is manufactured entirely from a one-piece steel body with a through bore, making it ideal for single-piece or small-batch production in turning and milling operations on conventional horizontal and vertical lathes, milling machines, rotary tables and machining centres. Its steel housing, precision-machined using CNC technologies and subjected to controlled hardening processes, delivers “Made in Germany” rigidity and durability, while the flat-milled surfaces reduce overall weight and rotational inertia—enhancing dynamic performance, protecting spindle bearings and optimising energy consumption.

An integrated drip rim around the DURO-M’s circumference ensures controlled coolant evacuation, reducing cleaning intervals and improving fluid management during machining.

At the heart of the system lies the flat spiral, borne of Röhm’s decades of expertise: an optimised tooth profile, tempered, quenched and tempered materials, and thread flanks ground on both sides transmit clamping torque to the jaws with efficiency superior to conventional chucks. This means less input force is required to reach maximum clamping pressure, finer adjustment sensitivity, and a compact, low-profile design that saves space in the machine bay and enables higher operating speeds.

Characteristic flat-milled areas reduce weight and provide excellent tool accessibility: by removing non-essential material from the DURO-M’s base body, the chuck becomes lighter, which not only protects spindle bearings but also allows for faster acceleration due to lower inertia—thereby lowering energy consumption. Moreover, absent material cannot obstruct tool change or maintenance operations.

In the factory, the jaws are preload-ground in the self-centering chuck to achieve maximum concentricity and repeatability.

Outstanding torque transmission
The DURO-M ranks among flat-spiral chucks with the highest torque-transmission capacity. This is not merely a claim but a real-world advantage. Firstly, less force is needed to attain maximum clamping torque—and that maximum is among the highest in its class. Secondly, clamping force can be set much more moderately, as the DURO-M reacts more sensitively to adjustment than competing products. A further tangible benefit of this intelligent system is the reduced overall height: the lower axial dimension not only saves space but, by using less material, renders the chuck lighter—yielding energy savings and permitting even faster spindle accelerations.
