The hand-held stroboscope measures contact revolutions, with a measurement range of 0.5 ... 99,999 rpm. For accurate measurements, several cone-shaped measuring tips are provided. Also included is a wheel adapter for measuring speed in m/min (m/min).
In addition to contact measurement, revolutions can be measured using an optical sensor. Simply stick a 1 x 1 cm reflective tape on the component to be monitored. The reflection of light allows the device to determine the number of revolutions.
The stroboscope also offers a strobe function, emitting a rapid succession of flashes. To quickly adjust the frequency of the flash, it has a function to double or halve the frequency. The number of revolutions is detected when the machine appears stationary.
In addition to speed and revolutions, the device also measures temperature. Any K-type thermocouple or PT1000 resistance sensor can be connected.
With these features, the portable stroboscope is versatile and can be used in many areas. For example, it is ideal for measuring the speed of conveyor belts or ventilation systems.

A stroboscope is a crucial device in measurement technology for obtaining still images of moving parts. In typography, for example, it is used to monitor printing rollers, while in industry it is used to measure the speed of rotating parts.
Before purchasing a stroboscope, it is important to define its use. The frequency of the flashes generated is a key aspect: some industrial models reach thousands of hertz, allowing the optical inspection of rapid sequences.
The light source is another decisive factor. Modern LED strobes offer powerful LED arrays that enable the complete illumination of an object, with nothing to envy xenon bulbs. Some stroboscopes can magnify the LED matrix to properly inspect large and moving parts, such as strips of paper. There are also models with a UV LED light source used for non-destructive inspections in maintenance.
Another selection criterion is the ignition (trigger) of the light source. A simple flash has an internal controller, while a more sophisticated strobe has a trigger input for external speed sensors, ensuring that flashes are always synchronised with the speed of the object. This is useful when rollers rotate at different speeds, such as in paper production or testing of printed products.
Modern flashes also offer the possibility of adjusting the flash frequency and phase shift, briefly delaying the flash pulse to obtain an 'optically rotating' image. This shifts the marks of the moving parts to the correct position.
For portable strobes, power is a key factor. If use is sporadic, a battery-powered model is sufficient, but for frequent use, a model with rechargeable batteries is recommended. Stationary models are generally powered by a power supply unit or directly from the mains.
The IP rating of the stroboscope is another important factor, indicating the level of protection against dust and water. For harsh environments, an IP67-rated model is ideal, as it offers optimal protection from external environmental influences.
