The solid carbide machine reamers for blind holes, K20 micrograin carbide, with straight flutes and central coolant hole, are precision cutting tools designed for finishing, sizing and dimensional correction of existing blind holes on conventional and CNC machine tools. They are used when a hole must be brought to its final size with high accuracy, good roundness, geometric stability and controlled surface finish, even when chips cannot exit freely from the opposite side of the workpiece.

A reamer is not intended to create the hole from solid material, but to finish it after drilling, boring or rough machining. The tool removes a small and controlled amount of material from the internal diameter, improving the geometry of the seat and correcting minor irregularities left by the previous tool. This allows calibrated holes to be produced for precise fits with dowel pins, pins, bushes, guides, centering components and mechanical parts intended for precision assembly.

The solid K20 micrograin carbide construction provides high rigidity, wear resistance and cutting edge stability. Compared with high-speed steel reamers, solid carbide reduces tool deflection, maintains size stability and provides longer tool life under correct working conditions. This is especially useful in CNC machining, repetitive production and applications where hole quality must remain constant over many parts.

The central coolant hole is the main advantage of this series. In blind holes, chips tend to accumulate at the bottom of the seat, increasing friction, heat, risk of scoring and possible tool sticking. Internal coolant brings the cutting fluid directly to the cutting zone, helping cool the cutting edges, lubricate the machined surface and support chip evacuation out of the hole. This improves process stability and helps achieve a more regular finish.

The straight flutes are suitable for precision reaming where stable, controlled and predictable cutting behavior is required. Combined with central coolant supply, this geometry is particularly suitable for blind-hole finishing because it helps maintain dimensional accuracy and reduce the risk of internal surface damage. Correct chip management remains essential, especially on tough materials, deep holes or small diameters.

For best results, the hole must be prepared with the correct stock allowance. If the pre-hole is too small, the reamer must remove too much material, increasing load, heat, wear and risk of breakage, especially with solid carbide tools. If the pre-hole is too close to the final size, the tool may not cut uniformly over the full surface, leaving geometric defects, scoring or uneven finish.

When machining blind holes, it is also important to check the usable hole depth, whether the bottom is flat or conical, the available chip space and the correct coolant pressure. The hole must not be obstructed by residual chips, contaminated oil or abrasive particles. Before reaming, the seat should be thoroughly cleaned, the pre-hole checked and the internal coolant supply verified.

During use, a stable machine, constant feed, rigid clamping and accurate alignment between tool and hole are recommended. Solid carbide provides high performance but requires correct working conditions: vibration, misalignment, unstable clamping or impact may damage the cutting edges. Reverse rotation while the reamer is inside the hole should be avoided, and the tool should never be forced or used with insufficient coolant in blind-hole applications where chips tend to accumulate.

A damaged reamer or partially obstructed coolant passage may produce out-of-tolerance holes, scoring, overheating or loss of dimensional stability.
