The purpose of a counterbore cutter is not simply to enlarge a hole, but to create a flat cylindrical seat correctly sized for the screw head. A properly machined counterbore allows the screw head to rest evenly, reduces the risk of inclined tightening, improves load distribution and provides a cleaner, safer and more professional assembly.

The ISO 4762 / DIN 912 / UNI 5931 reference identifies use with socket head cap screws, commonly used in machine building, fixtures and precision mechanical assemblies. Misalignment between hole and counterbore may cause uneven screw head contact, difficult assembly, irregular tightening and positional errors in the assembled component.

During use, a stable machine, rigid clamping, regular feed and suitable lubrication are recommended. Counterbore depth must be controlled according to the screw head height and required condition: recessed head, flush head or head slightly below the surface. Excessive feed, poor centering, vibration or a dirty Morse taper should be avoided, as these may cause oval seats, scored surfaces or inconsistent depth.
