Turning

Internal or external turning, is a mechanical operation by means of chip removal, considering the workpiece in rotation and the use of a cutting tool that through the execution of a profile, external or internal turning of a hole, removes excess workpiece material.

To perform a turning or profiling operation, it is necessary to make sure and check that the machine condition, especially the rigidity and play of the slides, the rigidity of the main spindle, the exact height adjustment and the centring of the tool, are correct. In some cases, vibration problems may be caused by the tool protruding too far from the tool holder, or the tool holder not being rigid enough. In this case, it is a good idea to check that the choice of tool, of the tool holder, is in line with the expectations or performance required during machining.
