PCE-WSAC 50W 230-ICA wind sensor for continuous monitoring up to 180 km/h, with ISO certification included, IEEE 802.15.4 ISM 2.4 GHz wireless transmission, 4 ... 20 mA analog output, 128 x 64 pixel backlit LCD display, pre-alarm and main alarm relays, km/h, mph and m/s units, 110 ... 230 V AC power supply, IP65 protection, stainless steel bearings, AISI 304 support, wireless antenna, self-levelling bracket and D 1.5 V battery included.

The PCE-WSAC 50W 230-ICA wind sensor is a professional system for continuous wind speed monitoring in outdoor and industrial applications, supplied with ISO certification included. It is designed for installations where wind control is an essential operational safety parameter, such as cranes, construction sites, scaffolding, awnings, outdoor coverings, inflatable structures, wind turbines, temporary installations, work at height and monitoring stations that are difficult to access. The version with ISO certificate is particularly suitable when measurement must be documented and associated with metrological traceability for internal procedures, quality checks, audits and safety management.

The system consists of an external anemometer probe, a remote monitor with backlit LCD display, wireless antenna, self-levelling bracket and D mono-cell 1.5 V DC battery. This configuration allows the probe to be installed at the point actually exposed to wind and the value to be displayed from a more convenient and safe position. It is useful when the sensor must be placed on high structures, cranes, roofs, towers, fences, masts, coverings or outdoor areas far from the operator.

The sensor measuring range is 4 ... 180 km/h, with a minimum starting speed of 8 km/h. The maximum value of 180 km/h, equivalent to approximately 50 m/s, allows monitoring of strong gusts and critical weather conditions. Available units are km/h, mph and m/s, so the system can be adapted to company procedures, internal standards or technical staff habits.

Sensor accuracy is ±1 km/h in the 4 ... 15 km/h range and ±3% in the 16 ... 180 km/h range. This allows both low and strong wind to be monitored with a level of reliability suitable for professional applications. On construction sites and outdoor installations, wind speed data is not only environmental information but an operational parameter that may determine whether work must be stopped, a structure secured, an awning lowered or an alarm activated.

Wireless radio transmission uses the IEEE 802.15.4 standard in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. This solution avoids long and complex wiring between probe and monitor, simplifying installation in difficult-to-reach places. The specified range is up to 750 m outdoors with direct line of sight, while it may be reduced to approximately 60 m when the monitor is installed inside a building. During installation, obstacles, walls, metal structures, interference and antenna position should be considered.

The monitor can receive the signal via pulse input, 4 ... 20 mA analog input or wireless connection. This flexibility makes the system suitable for both stand-alone installations and integration into existing systems. The 4 ... 20 mA analog output allows the measured value to be transmitted to PLCs, data loggers, control panels, supervision systems, recorders or alarm devices. Analog output resolution is 10 bit, analog output accuracy is ±1.5% and maximum input impedance is 500 Ω.

The system has alarm relays with a maximum rating of 250 V AC, 8 A. The presence of two relays, one for pre-alarm and one for the main alarm, allows progressive thresholds to be set. The pre-alarm can warn the operator that wind speed is increasing and approaching the operating limit; the main alarm can signal that the critical threshold has been exceeded and activate safety procedures. This function is essential for applications on cranes, scaffolding, awnings, coverings, inflatable structures and exposed installations.

The 128 x 64 pixel backlit LCD display allows clear reading of wind speed and operating information. Backlighting makes the monitor readable in control cabins, technical panels, low-light rooms or outdoor stations. Front keys allow configuration of settings, selection of measurement units and threshold management, making the system practical even for operators who need to carry out quick checks during work.

The monitor is powered by 110 ... 230 V AC and can supply the sensor with +15 V DC in the intended configurations. The monitor housing is made of robust plastic and has IP65 protection, suitable for technical installations where dust, humidity and splashes may be present. The sensor also has IP65 protection, an important feature for a device intended for outdoor mounting.

The sensor is made with a PA + FG housing, meaning glass-fibre reinforced polyamide, a material suitable for mechanical resistance and stability in outdoor environments. Bearings are made of X65Cr13 stainless steel and the support is made of AISI 304 stainless steel. This construction is important because an anemometer must rotate freely over time, even under humidity, temperature variations and prolonged use. Stainless steel bearings and support contribute to system durability and measurement repeatability.

The included self-levelling bracket helps keep the probe correctly oriented. Mechanical alignment is essential for reliable measurements: inclination, vibration, unstable supports or nearby obstacles can generate non-representative readings. The sensor must be installed in a free position, away from walls, edges, parapets, machines, turbulence-generating surfaces and any element that may shield or divert airflow.

The sensor dimensions are 320 x 110 x 100 mm. Weight is approximately 680 g with fixed support and approximately 900 g with self-levelling support. The monitor measures 145 x 95 x 125 mm and weighs 650 g. The system is therefore compact and suitable for fixed or semi-permanent installations. Correct selection of the mounting point remains decisive for measurement quality because wind must be detected at a point representative of the area to be protected.

The sensor operating temperature is -20 ... +70 °C, while storage temperature is -35 ... +70 °C. This range allows use in many climatic conditions, including outdoor installations exposed to heat, cold and seasonal changes. To maintain reliability over time, periodic checks should be scheduled on fixings, cable, antenna, battery, rotor cleanliness, freedom of rotation and general housing condition.

The probe is powered by a D mono-cell 1.5 V DC battery. Consumption is approximately 0.3 W with 1.5 V DC supply. Battery power is useful in wireless configurations because it allows the sensor to be installed where no electrical line is available. To ensure continuous operation, battery inspection should be included in the maintenance plan, especially in safety installations or in hard-to-reach places.

In crane and construction site applications, the system makes it possible to monitor wind and support operational decisions related to load handling, work at height and operator safety. On awnings, coverings and temporary structures, it can be used to warn before wind speed reaches dangerous values. On inflatable structures and temporary attractions, it monitors a critical environmental variable. In remote stations or wind plants, the analog output allows data recording and integration with control systems.

For reliable measurements, the sensor must be installed in an open and stable point. The probe must be free to rotate without obstruction and the antenna must be oriented to ensure stable radio communication with the monitor. In the presence of metal structures, buildings, walls or machines, reception should be checked before final fixing. If the analog output is used, wiring must be carefully made and compatible with the receiving system.

The scope of delivery includes 1 PCE-WSAC 50W 230-ICA wind sensor, 1 probe, 1 self-levelling bracket, 1 wireless antenna, 1 D mono-cell 1.5 V DC battery, 1 ISO certificate in English/German and operating instructions available for download.
