The PCE-LDC 15 leak detector is a professional ultrasonic instrument for locating leaks in refrigeration systems, compressed air, gas, steam, vacuum and pipelines. It operates at 40 kHz ±2 kHz and features a 3.5" TFT touchscreen, laser pointer, sound-insulated headphones, rechargeable lithium battery, over 10 hours operating time and directional cone for accurate leak localisation.

The PCE-LDC 15 leak detector for refrigeration systems is a professional instrument designed to locate leaks in cooling systems, compressed air circuits, gas systems, steam, vacuum, pipelines and technical components where escaping media can generate ultrasonic noise that cannot be heard by the human ear. The device detects these high-frequency signals and converts them into an audible signal through headphones, allowing the technician to locate the leak quickly, practically and without invasive work.

The operating frequency of the PCE-LDC 15 is 40 kHz ±2 kHz, a range suitable for detecting leaks that produce ultrasonic emissions when gas or air passes through cracks, fittings, seals, valves, joints, pipes or damaged components. This detection principle is particularly useful because it allows leaks to be found even when the noise produced is not directly audible, especially in industrial environments, machine rooms, HVAC systems, technical plants and noisy production areas.

The instrument is suitable for refrigeration and cooling systems, where a leak can reduce system efficiency, increase energy consumption, compromise thermal performance and cause downtime or more complex maintenance work. The detector allows preventive checks on pipes, fittings, heat exchangers, compressors, valves, seals and connections, helping the maintenance technician intervene before the leak becomes critical.

The PCE-LDC 15 is also useful in compressed air systems, where leaks are one of the main causes of energy waste in industrial facilities. A small leak on a fitting, valve or line can generate continuous consumption that is difficult to detect without a suitable instrument. Thanks to ultrasonic detection, the technician can inspect the system during normal operation, identify the abnormal point and plan the repair more precisely.

The device can also be used on gas, steam and vacuum systems, as well as on door seals, technical passages and components where leakage or poor sealing can affect safety, efficiency or process continuity. Ultrasonic detection allows quick inspection without dismantling the system and without necessarily interrupting operation, depending on working conditions and applicable safety procedures.

The detector is supplied with sound-insulated headphones, which are essential when working in environments with high background noise. The headphones allow the converted signal to be heard and make it easier to distinguish the presence of a leak, reducing the influence of machinery, fans, compressors or other environmental sound sources. This makes the instrument suitable for industrial maintenance, production departments, refrigeration plants, workshops and technical installations.

The directional cone mounted on the detector helps collect and concentrate sound waves from the area being inspected. In this way, the device works like a directional microphone, helping the operator progressively narrow the search area and distinguish the leak point from other surrounding noises. This accessory is especially useful when checking close pipe runs, valve groups, compressors or complex systems with many nearby components.

The integrated laser pointer helps precisely identify the inspected point. During the search, the technician can aim the instrument at the suspected area and use the laser as a visual reference, especially when working on overhead pipes, recessed components, technical compartments or hard-to-reach areas. This function improves operating convenience and helps indicate the exact point to be checked or repaired.

The 3.5" colour TFT touchscreen provides simple function handling and immediate reading of operating indications. The touchscreen interface makes the instrument intuitive during maintenance work and allows quick setup and control. The display is also useful for more structured work during scheduled inspections or checks on several sections of the system.

Power is supplied by an internal 7.4 V lithium battery, with more than 10 hours of continuous operation. This operating time makes the PCE-LDC 15 suitable for extended inspections in industrial plants, checks across several departments or long maintenance sessions without frequent recharging. Maximum charging time is approximately 4 hours. The dedicated socket allows connection of the external charger, while the USB port is used for software updates.

The device has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, IP20 protection class and pollution degree 2. Operating conditions are -5 to +50 °C with relative humidity below 95% without condensation, while storage conditions are -20 to +60 °C with relative humidity below 95% without condensation. The maximum operating altitude is 4000 m, making the instrument suitable for many technical and industrial environments.

The detector dimensions are 263 x 96 x 280 mm with preamplifier and tube, and the weight is approximately 0.55 kg in the configuration with preamplifier and tube. The complete set with carrying case weighs approximately 3 kg, a practical solution for safely transporting the instrument and accessories between departments, job sites, facilities and customer service work. The case protects the device during transport and keeps all leak detection components organised.

For reliable results, it is advisable to scan the inspection area slowly, keep the directional cone aimed at pipes, fittings, valves and joints, compare signal intensity from several directions and gradually reduce the distance from the suspected point. In very noisy environments, the sound-insulated headphones should always be used while focusing on variations in the detected signal. When possible, the leak point should be documented and the repair planned according to the criticality of the system.

The PCE-LDC 15 is therefore a professional solution for fast and accurate leak detection in refrigeration systems and industrial installations. The combination of ultrasonic detection, 40 kHz operating frequency, sound-insulated headphones, touchscreen display, laser pointer, directional cone, long-life battery and carrying case makes it suitable for preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, plant diagnostics and technical inspection in complex industrial environments.
