The center must be selected based on the following parameters:
Mass of the workpiece
Rotation of the workpiece during machining
Cylindrical precision of the workpiece
Roundness precision of the workpiece
Quantity of pieces to be produced
For difficult workpieces and long shafts, decide whether the center should also be used as a driver
Selection of the correct tip based on the tool's clearance
Preparation of the workpiece for the insertion of the center

ROEHM FLEX centers, made with hardened and ground bodies, are designed to ensure stability and precision during turning and grinding operations. Thanks to the interchangeable tips system and Morse taper shank available in sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, these centers adapt to a wide range of machine tools.
A center is a crucial component in rotating machine tools, such as traditional or CNC lathes. It supports the workpiece from the opposite side of the chuck during machining with cutting tools. Typically, it is rotating since the workpiece spins with the main spindle. These centers feature precision rolling bearings for axial loads and can have various shanks or attachments depending on the lathe tailstock they are mounted in. Additionally, they have an axial preload created by disc springs, which allows for a constant load on the workpiece during machining.
These centers are chosen to ensure the rigidity of the workpiece during radial or longitudinal turning operations. They are particularly useful in scenarios such as working on pieces that extend from the main chuck by 2-3 times the gripping diameter, handling heavy workpieces, and achieving high cylindricality and precision during longitudinal turning.
When selecting a center, it is essential to consider several factors, including the mass of the workpiece, its rotation during machining, the required cylindricality and roundness, and the quantity of pieces to be produced. In the case of complex workpieces, it’s important to decide whether the center will also serve as a driver and to select the appropriate tip based on the tool’s dimensions.
To ensure proper functioning, it is recommended to drill a hole with a center drill at an angle matching the angle of the tip. If the center is inserted into a hole, choose the tip based on the chamfer at the start of the hole.
Regular maintenance of centers is essential. It’s necessary to check the radial or axial play of the precision bearings and, in the event of replacement, also change the disc springs for axial compensation to ensure optimal performance.
ROEHM FLEX centers offer a wide range of applications thanks to the possibility of using different interchangeable tips, allowing operators to quickly adapt the tool to specific machining requirements. The quick-change system reduces machine downtime, improving production efficiency. The combination of hardened bodies and high-quality tips ensures smooth and long-lasting operation, reducing wear and maintenance costs. Lastly, the hardening and grinding of the tips guarantee strict tolerances, essential for high-precision applications.
ROEHM FLEX centers are an excellent choice for professionals and companies requiring precise, versatile, and durable tools. Choosing these centers means investing in high-quality and high-performance solutions, critical for meeting modern market challenges.
