The Nuova PTM CNB/S live centre is a medium-duty rotating centre designed to provide precision, rigidity and reliability in turning and finishing operations on conventional lathes, CNC lathes and general machine tool applications. The CNB/S version features a reduced head, making it suitable for operations where better tool accessibility is required or where the workpiece geometry demands a compact front profile.

This live centre is used to support the workpiece between the spindle and the tailstock during medium-load machining operations, including finishing, general turning and high-speed rotation. The compact and rigid external body helps maintain stable support during machining, reducing vibration and deflection that could affect surface finish, dimensional accuracy and overall machining quality.

The Nuova PTM CN series is manufactured with an internal construction designed for long service life and reliable performance. Bearings and thrust bearings are mounted in ground seats and protected by seals and oil-retaining elements. The internal lubrication system uses permanent grease, reducing the need for routine maintenance and ensuring smooth, consistent rotation during operation. During the first working hours, a slight grease leakage may occur; this is a normal behaviour caused by the initial settling of the internal lubrication.

The WPS – Water Protection System is designed to limit the ingress of dust, chips, dirt and coolant into the live centre. This is particularly important in industrial turning environments where coolant, emulsion and metal particles can reduce bearing life and compromise long-term accuracy. The sealing system helps preserve the internal bearing assembly and supports consistent performance even in demanding working conditions.

The Nuova PTM CNB/S is suitable for machine shops, maintenance departments, turning workshops and industrial users requiring a reliable live centre with a good balance between precision, durability and cost efficiency. The Morse taper on request allows the live centre to be matched to different lathe configurations, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of turning applications.

During operation, live centres with internal bearings may reach temperatures above 60°C, depending on speed, load, machining time and working conditions. This can be considered normal in many applications. Although the live centre generally does not require frequent maintenance, periodic inspection is recommended, especially in intensive use, continuous coolant exposure or demanding production environments.
