The PCE-UV 50 UV meter is a compact instrument with integrated sensor for simultaneous measurement of UV irradiance, UV energy and temperature in industrial processes. It offers a 0 - 40000 mW/cm² range, energy up to 999999 mJ/cm², temperature from -55 to +125 °C, OLED display, MAX function, adjustable trigger, timer, data memory, USB-C and heat-resistant metal housing.

The PCE-UV 50 UV meter is a high-precision professional instrument designed to simultaneously check UV irradiance, UV energy and temperature in industrial processes using ultraviolet sources. It is particularly suitable for UV curing, drying, hardening of paints, inks and adhesives, inspection of UV lamps, UV LED systems, exposure machines and production processes where the radiation dose must be monitored repeatably.

The instrument operates in the wavelength range from 340 nm to 420 nm, making it suitable for controlling UV and UV LED processes used in industrial applications. Radiation measurement allows the user to verify whether the light source provides the required intensity, while energy measurement makes it possible to evaluate the total dose received during a pass or exposure cycle. The integrated temperature measurement adds an additional control parameter, which is important in processes where heat can affect the final quality of the treated material.

The UV irradiance measuring range is 0 - 40000 mW/cm², with 1 mW/cm² resolution. Accuracy is ±5 mW/cm² for values below 50 mW/cm² and ±10% of the measured value for values above 50 mW/cm². For UV energy, the measuring range is 0 - 999999 mJ/cm², with 1 mJ/cm² resolution and ±10% of measured value accuracy. Temperature is measured from -55 to +125 °C, with 0.1 °C resolution and ±2 °C accuracy.

The PCE-UV 50 is equipped with a 1.4" OLED display, providing clear reading of values even in demanding operating conditions. The sampling rate of 2048 measurements per second allows rapid changes in UV irradiance to be recorded during passage under a lamp, LED source or exposure machine. This acquisition speed is especially useful in dynamic processes where the sample or meter moves through the irradiation zone.

The MAX function automatically stores the highest value detected during the measurement. At the end of the cycle, the peak value is clearly displayed and can be used to compare UV source efficiency, check process stability or identify differences between several points of the machine. This function is useful when the technician needs to evaluate not only the total dose but also the maximum irradiance peak reached.

The trigger function allows the measurement to start automatically when an adjustable activation value from 1 to 50 mW/cm² is exceeded. This makes it possible to record only the phase actually exposed to UV radiation, avoiding dead time or non-significant data before entering the treatment zone. The trigger is particularly useful in UV tunnels, drying systems, printing lines, coating machines and processes where the passage under the light source is fast and must be recorded with precise timing.

The integrated timer allows UV exposure time to be monitored and directly linked with duration, intensity, accumulated energy and temperature. This is an important advantage in curing processes, where an insufficient dose may cause incomplete curing, poor adhesion, surface defects or non-compliant performance, while excessive exposure may generate overheating, material changes or unnecessary energy consumption.

The compact design, with a height of only 8 mm, makes the PCE-UV 50 suitable for insertion into narrow spaces, machine passages, UV tunnels and systems where the available clearance between the work surface and the light source is limited. The robust, heat-resistant metal housing allows use in industrial environments and applications with ambient temperatures up to 125 °C. The thermal protection cover helps protect the device during measurements under demanding conditions.

The measured data are retained even if the power supply is interrupted and are automatically displayed when the device is switched on again. The memory is automatically cleared when a new measurement is started or manually by holding the SELECT button in STOP mode. This data management helps the operator recover results after an accidental interruption and keeps the measurement cycle organised.

The USB-C interface enables device connection and management, while power is supplied by an internal 3.7 V lithium-ion battery with 400 mAh capacity, rechargeable via 5 V DC 1000 mA. Automatic switch-off after 3 minutes helps preserve battery life. The IP20 protection class is suitable for controlled environments, laboratories, production departments and technical areas where the instrument is used for targeted checks.

The PCE-UV 50 complies with JIG 879-2015 and QB/T 2826-2017 references and is suitable for quality assurance of UV processes where exposure must be documented and made reproducible. Typical applications include UV printing, UV coating, adhesive curing, surface treatments, electronics manufacturing, packaging, graphic industry and checks on exposure machines.

For reliable measurements, it is advisable to place the meter at the actual exposure point of the workpiece, ensure that the sensor window is clean, set the trigger value correctly and repeat the check at several points across the useful width of the UV source. This makes it possible to evaluate not only the maximum value but also radiation uniformity and process stability over time.

The PCE-UV 50 UV meter is therefore a professional solution for technicians and companies that need to accurately control irradiance, energy and temperature in UV processes. The combination of slim housing, integrated sensor, OLED display, high sampling rate, trigger function, maximum value memory and heat resistance makes it a practical instrument for quality control, maintenance and optimisation of industrial processes using UV and UV LED sources.
