The stroboscope is ideal for maintenance technicians and technical service staff on industrial plants and machines. It allows to check rotations, observe performance, detect errors and faults invisible to the human eye, and interrupt processes in optical mode.

Used for years in industrial processes, it is also employed in research and development:
  • Filling and labeling machines: Used by beer and mineral water producers.
  • Paper production and printing machines: Detects defects at speeds exceeding 60 m/min, observing the web before winding. Even minimal errors, such as pulsations, become visible. For example, on a flatbed printing paper machine, imperceptible defects have been identified.
  • Textile industry: Control of textile machinery.
  • Automotive industry: Inspection of engines and mechanical components.
  • High-speed machines and motors: Determines rotations and adjusts the speed of large mechanisms. Used for the concentric run of waves, it is ideal for inspecting engines, gears, and cylinders.
  • Ventilation systems: Used in the air conditioning sector.
  • Steel industry: Rolling and other industrial processes.

The stroboscope is essential in processes with rotating components or mass production of parts. Warnings: Optically stopped objects move at high speed. Always maintain a safe distance and do not touch the object under examination.

General Indications: To obtain correct measurements or an optimal fixed image, it is important to follow an accurate procedure. For example, in belt transmission, optical interruption is easily achieved by a prominent area to which the stroboscope is adjusted.

When observing V-belts on a drive wave, it is useful to mark a reference line with chalk for precise evaluation. Measurement on a wave: A wave correctly centered with a drive wheel shows the actual number of revolutions with the optical stop. In case of axial misalignment, the measured speed will be doubled, causing evaluation errors.

Stroboscopes are essential measurement devices for obtaining fixed images of moving objects. In typography, they are used to monitor printing rollers, while in industry they are used to measure the speed of rotating parts.

Flash Frequency
Before purchasing a stroboscope, it is essential to define its use. A crucial aspect is the flash frequency generated. Some industrial models reach thousands of hertz, allowing optical inspection even of rapid sequences.

Light Source
The type of light source is another important factor. Modern LED flashes are no less than traditional xenon lamps, offering powerful LED arrays for complete illumination of an object. Some stroboscopes can enlarge the LED array to correctly inspect wide and moving parts, such as paper strips. There are also models with UV LED light source used for non-destructive testing in maintenance.

Triggering and Synchronization
Another selection criterion is the triggering of the light source. A simple flash has an internal regulator, while a more sophisticated stroboscope is equipped with a trigger input for external speed sensors, ensuring that the flashes are always synchronized with the object's speed. This is useful when rollers rotate at different speeds, such as in paper production or printed product testing.

Frequency and Phase Adjustment
Modern flashes also offer flash frequency adjustment and the possibility to adjust the phase, briefly delaying the flash pulse to obtain an "optically rotating" image. This moves the marks of the moving parts to the correct position.

Power and Power Supply
For portable stroboscopes, power is a key factor. If used sporadically, a battery-powered model is sufficient, but for frequent use, a model with rechargeable batteries is recommended. Fixed models are generally powered by a power supply or directly from the mains.

IP Protection Rating
The IP protection rating of the stroboscope is another important factor, indicative of the level of protection against dust and water. For harsh environments, a model with an IP67 protection rating is ideal, as it offers optimal protection from external environmental influences.
Using these criteria, it is possible to choose the stroboscope that best suits your needs, ensuring optimal performance and safety during use.
