The column drill machine is a machine tool designed and manufactured to be able to make holes of different diameters and different drilling depths on any metal, wood, plastic materials, through the use of helical drills that during creation of the hole, through the helical profile of the compartment, allows the evacuation of excess material through chip removal.
How a column drill machine with mechanical transmission works.
The column drill machine consists of a main motor that, through a pulley mounted on the shaft, transmits the rotational motion to a driven pulley, where the drill chuck is housed, which enables the drilling of materials and metals.

The main pulley and the driven pulley, has different belt housing diameters; so that the rotational speed of the drill spindle can be changed and the cutting speed can be optimized for machining.
There is also a version with an inverter, which allows variation of revolutions by acting on the electrical frequency of the motor through a board and potentiometer that allows frequency variation and speed change. This version allows easy adjustment and wide adjustable speed range, justifying the higher cost compared to the mechanical version.
The penetration of the drill into the workpiece or material, is done by acting manually through a lever mechanism, determines the vertical displacement along the axis of the rotating drill chuck generating the drilling of the workpiece.
This whole assembly is usually enclosed in a casting and is fixed on a cylindrical section column of different heights according to the technical characteristics of the drill design
On the cylindrical section of the column, a table is coupled and mounted, which allows the mounting of a vice to make the grip stable during drilling. Through a system of clamps, it is possible to adjust the vertical and angular positioning of the table; the clamping of the workpiece in the vice and the attachment of the vice to the table is ensured by the presence of inverted “T” grooves in the table.
The column is fixed on a base that rests on the floor to make the column drill machine stable.
The base has inverted “T” grooves so that it can be braced for drilling very tall workpieces. The base also has slots for anchoring the drill on the floor, making the machine tool safe and stable for any type of drilling.
