METALLKRAFT FSM 1545 is an industrial surface grinder with NC-controlled vertical feed, a 150x450 mm electromagnetic chuck and a maximum spindle-to-table distance of 450 mm. Its cast-iron structure, spindle with 2 µm concentricity, Turcite-coated V-guides and coolant system support accurate, smooth grinding and high-quality surface finishes on flat parts, slides, tapered gibs and profiled tools.

METALLKRAFT 3931545 FSM 1545 is an industrial precision surface grinder designed for flat-surface grinding, restoration of functional planes and geometries, and consistent finishing of single components, small batches, tooling and maintenance parts. The AD 5 NC-controlled vertical feed manages wheel infeed with a minimum increment resolution down to 0.001 mm, while the 150x450 mm electromagnetic chuck suits small and medium-sized workpieces. The 450 mm maximum distance between spindle and table provides useful clearance for workpieces, the magnetic chuck and compatible holding equipment.

The cast-iron construction is designed to absorb vibration and maintain geometric stability. A high-quality spindle with a stated concentricity of 2 µm runs at 2,900 rpm and supports regular wheel rotation. Turcite-coated V-guides reduce friction and promote smooth table travel, while automatic central lubrication helps limit wear and changes in sliding behaviour. Table feed is adjustable from 5 to 25 m/min and the maximum permissible load is 110 kg, including the workpiece and any added fixture.

For flat grinding, the component should rest on clean, burr-free reference surfaces and be oriented so that the ground area is stable and adequately supported. On the electromagnetic chuck, its mass should bridge several magnetic poles. Thin parts and workpieces with a small contact area require verification of holding force and may need suitable auxiliary supports. Non-magnetic, round or awkward components and pins require a precision vice, V-blocks, angle plates, clamps or dedicated fixtures selected within the machine’s capacity. Clearance from the wheel, flange and full table stroke must be checked before starting.

Inclined faces, dovetail slides and tapered gibs can be set using an optional compatible sine plate with magnetic chuck, a tilting precision vice or ground angle fixtures. The angle is set with gauge blocks and the sine relationship, then verified with a dial indicator or suitable reference. A reliable datum face should be ground first; subsequent repositioning must preserve the same datum system to control flatness, parallelism, angle and thickness. Dovetails and gibs should be checked across their functional contact areas with calibrated rollers, pins or appropriate inspection equipment.

Grinding-wheel selection depends on material, hardness, contact area, stock removal and desired finish. Aluminium-oxide wheels are commonly considered for standard and hardened steels, with grit, grade and structure matched to the application. Carbide HM normally requires a compatible diamond wheel selected for the spindle, flange, peripheral speed and coolant. A coarser, more open wheel promotes removal and reduces heat, whereas a finer grit improves finish but needs lighter cuts and regular dressing. The standard wheel size is 180x13x31.7 mm; alternatives must comply with the manufacturer’s dimensional and speed limits and with the installed guards.

When sharpening brazed or solid-carbide form tools used on single-spindle and multi-spindle automatic lathes, a precision or adjustable fixture is required to repeat rake, clearance and profile position. The grinder can generate flat faces and profiles compatible with its movements and the installed wheel. Complex forms require a suitable wheel-dressing system and intermediate profile checks. Producing or restoring stepped pins likewise requires dedicated rotary or clamping equipment selected according to diameter, length, concentricity and required accuracy; these special fixtures are not listed as standard equipment.

The standard coolant system removes heat and grinding debris from the contact zone, reducing the risk of burns, thermal cracks, distortion and loss of hardness. The flow should reach the wheel entry point continuously. Regular dressing keeps the wheel sharp, reduces grinding pressure and limits heat generation. Light infeed, consistent traverse and a controlled spark-out improve flatness and surface finish. The wheel should be balanced with the supplied system and mounted with the wheel flange in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.

FSM 1545 is suitable for toolrooms, precision engineering workshops, machine-tool manufacture and rebuilding, industrial maintenance, mould and die work, automotive production, metal small-parts manufacturing, component production, fixture building and quality-control departments. Typical tasks include reconditioning plates, guides, shims, reference blocks, vice jaws, gibs and functional surfaces, as well as preparing profiled tools when the required geometry and fixture fall within the machine’s capability. Achievable tolerances depend on thermal stability, wheel condition, balancing, dressing, fixture rigidity, material, workpiece size, inspection method and operator skill.

Standard equipment includes wheel flange, grinding wheel, wheel-balancing system, service keys, halogen work lamp and coolant system. The 1.5 kW wheel motor and 0.75 kW hydraulic-system motor use a 400 V 50 Hz supply. Overall dimensions are approximately 1,900x1,300x1,700 mm and machine weight is 900 kg, requiring a stable, level installation area with clearance for table travel, maintenance and coolant handling. Before purchase, workpiece size and mass, material, batch size, tolerances, roughness, inclined or profiled features and required fixtures should be assessed together; Tadaah technical support can assist in matching the machine, wheel and workholding solution to the professional application.
