Calibrated balls

Calibrated steel balls are high-precision instruments widely used in the field of metrology and in applications requiring extremely accurate measurements. These spheres are made of ground and lapped chromium-plated steel of high quality to ensure high hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability. Their manufacture follows very tight tolerances, particularly with regard to diameter and roundness, making them ideal as reference standards in precision measurements. They are often sold in pairs, as using two balls allows a direct comparison that improves measurement accuracy. When used in pairs, spheres make it possible to carry out checks on measuring instruments or surfaces, allowing dimensions to be compared or the symmetry and roundness of mechanical components to be verified.
In the field of measurement, calibrated spheres are used to calibrate measuring instruments such as micrometers, slide gauges and co-ordinate measuring machines. Placed inside holes or cavities, they are used to precisely determine the internal diameter of a component or to assess the shape of the hole itself. 
Due to their high precision, calibrated spheres are also used as a reference to check the reliability of other measuring instruments or to perform roundness tests, as a perfectly round sphere can be used to compare the geometry of other components. In addition, calibrated spheres are crucial in quality control and maintenance processes in sectors such as precision mechanics, automotive, aerospace and tool manufacturing, as they ensure maximum precision and reliability in measurement and calibration operations.
