PCE-IRS 240 benchtop infrared sterilizer, compact and fast, for open-flame-free sterilization of small laboratory instruments compatible with high temperatures. Offers two-stage temperature 400 / 850 °C, sterilization in approximately 5 ... 7 seconds, warm-up time approximately 15 minutes, internal chamber with 35 mm diameter and 100 mm length, one-switch operation, 220 ... 240 V AC power supply, IP20 protection and 795 g weight.

The PCE-IRS 240 infrared sterilizer is a compact benchtop device designed for rapid sterilization of small laboratory instruments, metal accessories and tools compatible with high temperatures. It is suitable for laboratories, research facilities, medical environments, microbiological analysis, quality control, technical schools, universities and departments where instruments used during operations, tests, preparations and checks must be treated quickly and locally.

The operating principle is based on high-temperature heat inside the sterilization chamber. Unlike traditional systems with an open flame, the infrared sterilizer operates without visible combustion, offering more controlled and safer use in laboratory environments. This is particularly useful where burners or open flames are not recommended, or where risks related to gas, sparks, flames and exposed heat should be reduced.

The PCE-IRS 240 offers two temperature levels, 400 °C and 850 °C, allowing the treatment to be adapted to different operating needs. The lower temperature can be useful for less aggressive applications or for instruments requiring more careful thermal control, while the higher temperature is intended for fast and intensive sterilization. The overall specified range is 0 ... 850 °C, with a warm-up time of approximately 15 minutes before operation at working temperature.

Once the working temperature has been reached, sterilization takes approximately 5 ... 7 seconds. This short time makes the device suitable for repetitive activities where the operator needs to sterilize small instruments frequently during a procedure or work sequence. The speed of the process helps optimize laboratory time, reducing interruptions and making daily work smoother.

The internal chamber has a diameter of 35 mm and an internal length of 100 mm. These dimensions make it suitable for small instruments such as loops, needles, tweezers, small metal tools and accessories compatible with heat treatment. Before use, it is always necessary to check that the instrument to be sterilized is suitable for high temperatures and that its shape, size and material are compatible with the device chamber.

The image shows a compact structure with an upper cylindrical head, ventilated body, stable base and front switch. The sterilization chamber is positioned at the front of the cylinder and is marked with a hot surface warning, an important element because it indicates the presence of high temperatures during operation. The benchtop base allows the sterilizer to be placed on flat, stable surfaces suitable for laboratory environments.

Operation is simple and controlled by a single switch. This reduces operating complexity and makes the instrument practical even for users who need to perform rapid sterilization during repetitive activities. Simple controls are an advantage in laboratories where the instrument is used several times during the day without requiring complex adjustments.

The device is small and lightweight, with a weight of 795 g and compact dimensions. This allows it to be placed easily on workbenches, test stations, laboratory tables or technical areas where space is limited. Its compact design also makes repositioning within the laboratory easier, provided that a stable, heat-resistant surface is always used and the device is kept away from materials sensitive to high temperatures.

Power supply is 220 ... 240 V AC 50/60 Hz with Europlug connector. This makes the sterilizer suitable for normal compatible laboratory electrical supply. Before use, it is advisable to check that the socket is suitable, the power cable is intact and the device is positioned so as to avoid accidental cable pulling or contact with hot surfaces.

The device protection class is IP20. This means that the sterilizer must be used in controlled indoor environments, protected from water, splashes, dust and harsh environmental conditions. It is not designed for outdoor use or humid environments. The specified operating conditions are 5 ... 40 °C with 0 ... 90% RH, while storage conditions are 0 ... 50 °C with 0 ... 90% RH.

The sterilizer is not a measuring instrument and is not used to check heights, transmission clearances, form errors or geometry. Its specific function is rapid heat treatment of compatible instruments, with temperature control through two operating levels. In this context, the most important technical aspects are achievable temperature, warm-up time, sterilization time, chamber dimensions, stable positioning and safe use.

For correct use, it is advisable to wait until the instrument is fully heated before starting sterilization, insert only parts compatible with high temperatures, avoid forcing oversized instruments into the chamber and never touch the front area during or immediately after use. The surface may remain hot after shutdown, so the device must be allowed to cool before moving, cleaning or storing it.

During use, it is important to keep the cylindrical body ventilation clear, avoid contact with flammable materials and place the sterilizer in an orderly, dry and easily accessible area. Non-compatible materials, plastics not resistant to heat, liquids or objects that could deform, melt, burn or release unwanted vapours must not be inserted. Use must be limited to instruments and applications consistent with the product’s technical indications.

In practical applications, the PCE-IRS 240 is useful in microbiology laboratories, analysis laboratories, research stations, teaching environments, quality control departments and facilities where small instruments must be sterilized quickly and repeatedly. Sterilization in a few seconds helps maintain an efficient workflow, especially when the treatment must be carried out frequently during tests or preparations.

The device is particularly suitable for users looking for a more practical alternative to open flame. The absence of flame improves process control and reduces some risks typical of combustion systems, while still requiring attention because the chamber reaches very high temperatures. For this reason, the operator must always use good laboratory practice, avoid direct contact with hot parts and follow the instructions for use.

The scope of delivery includes the PCE-IRS 240 infrared sterilizer, power cable and operating instructions available for download. The equipment is essential and designed for direct laboratory use. Before first commissioning, it is advisable to read the instructions, check correct positioning, verify that there is no visible damage and ensure that the working environment is suitable.

The PCE-IRS 240 infrared sterilizer is therefore a compact, fast and functional solution for localized sterilization in laboratories. The combination of selectable 400 / 850 °C temperature, sterilization in 5 ... 7 seconds, approximately 15 minute warm-up time, 35 mm internal chamber, one-switch operation, low weight, 220 ... 240 V power supply and benchtop structure makes it suitable for laboratory technicians, researchers, healthcare operators, quality control and professionals requiring a fast, simple instrument without open flame.
