If the value exceeds 1.00 mg/L, after 6 beeps the maximum value is uniformly displayed as 1.00 mg/L with the red indicator.

The PCE-ALC 40 includes a data memory function. After each test, the data are saved automatically and the device can store up to 50 groups of data. To access recording mode, the manual indicates holding the Power button for 2 seconds and then using the same button to check the records. If “ERR” is displayed, it is advisable to warm up the device several times, blow within 6 seconds, clean the air inlet and repeat the test with a breath lasting more than 3 seconds.

Test values may be inaccurate under unsuitable environmental temperature and humidity, in the presence of alcohol molecules in the air, residual alcohol gas in the air inlet, strong odours or high concentrations of interfering gases. The manual also mentions locations such as wine cellars, basements or places where fermented or pickled foods are processed as possible disturbing environments. For this reason, the test should be carried out in an environment that is as clean, ventilated and free from vapours as possible.

It is essential not to blow saliva, residues or smoke into the air inlet. These elements may settle in the gas inlet, influence subsequent results and damage the sensor. The device must not be cleaned directly with chemicals or corrosive solutions, because liquid could enter the sensor and cause damage. The instrument must not be disassembled or repaired without authorisation, as unauthorised work may cause failures and compromise operating reliability.
