DIAL GAUGES

The dial indicator is a measuring instrument used to detect linear displacement and, above all, deviations from a nominal dimension (comparative measurements). In metrology, it is widely used for fast, repeatable checks on mechanical components, to verify dimensional and geometric tolerances and to identify even minimal variations during machine set-up or inspection.

Available models differ in measuring range, resolution (0.01 mm, 0.001 mm or finer), accuracy and repeatability—key parameters when working on fits, centering operations and precision finishing. Analog dial indicators (needle type) use a dial and graduated scale for immediate reading and are appreciated on the shop floor for robustness and speed. Digital indicators provide a direct numeric readout on the display and often include advanced functions (e.g., ABS/INC, preset, min/max, Δ) and, in many cases, data output for measurement logging and production traceability.
