The HSS-G hexagon dies for G BSP Whitworth threads are designed for cleaning, correcting and restoring external cylindrical threads according to DIN ISO 228 on pipes, fittings, nipples, adapters, hydraulic components, pneumatic parts and already threaded mechanical components. The G BSP thread, also known as BSPP, uses a 55° Whitworth profile and is widely used in industrial connections, fluid systems, mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics and applications requiring compatibility with parallel gas pipe threads.

The hexagonal shape allows the dies to be driven with standard spanners, sockets or common manual tools, making them especially suitable for operations in difficult-to-access areas where a conventional die stock may be too bulky or impossible to use. Compared with circular dies, hexagon dies are mainly intended for restoring and cleaning existing threads rather than cutting new threads from solid material. They are therefore ideal for removing burrs, minor deformation, machining residues, light oxidation or superficial damage from already installed fittings and components.

The HSS-G construction provides good wear resistance, stable thread profile and accurate thread restoration. The 55° Whitworth profile helps maintain the correct geometry of G BSP threads, supporting regular engagement with compatible fittings, nuts, sleeves and female components. Since G threads are cylindrical and not tapered, sealing is usually achieved by a gasket, washer, shoulder or dedicated sealing element, rather than by tapered thread interference. For this reason, it is important to correctly distinguish cylindrical G BSP threads from tapered BSPT threads or other inch-based standards.

The correct version must be selected according to G BSP size, pitch, available space around the component and the wrench or socket used for operation. To obtain accurate restoration, the die must be started coaxially with the existing thread, suitable cutting lubricant must be used and progressive feed should be applied while periodically clearing chips, burrs or residues removed from the profile.

Misaligned starting, excessive thread damage, incorrect diameter or forced use of the tool may worsen the thread profile, increase cutting effort or compromise the fit with the female component.
