The PCE-CLT 100 cable length tester is a professional TDR instrument for quickly determining the length of electrical and coaxial cables without fully unwinding them. It offers a 5 - 1500 m measuring range, 0.1 m resolution, ±(1% + 0.2 m) accuracy, 2.8" colour LCD, memory for 100 measurements, database with 86 cable types and adjustable velocity of propagation factor.

The PCE-CLT 100 cable length tester is a professional instrument designed to determine the length of electrical and coaxial cables quickly, accurately and conveniently, without the need to fully unwind the cable. It is particularly suitable for electricians, maintenance technicians, installation teams, cable assembly departments, technical warehouses and operators who need to check cable reels, installed lines, routes to be installed or cables requiring inspection before work begins.

The measuring principle is based on the TDR time domain reflectometry method. The instrument sends a pulse along the connected cable and analyses the return time of the reflected signal. This makes it possible to estimate the cable length and detect possible faults such as interruptions or short circuits. This method is especially useful when the cable is not fully accessible, when it is still on a reel or when it has already been installed in cable ducts, panels, technical passages or existing systems.

The PCE-CLT 100 provides a measuring range from 5 to 1500 m, with 0.1 m resolution and ±(1% of measured value + 0.2 m) accuracy. These features make it suitable for both short cable runs and long-distance checks in electrical installation, maintenance and industrial applications. The option to display measurements in metres or feet allows the instrument to be adapted to different working standards and operating environments.

One of the main advantages of the tester is the integrated database with 86 cable types. The technician can quickly select the cable type closest to the one being measured, reducing setup time and improving ease of use. The instrument also allows user-specific cables to be entered, which is very useful when working with special cables, recurring supplies, standardised company wiring or materials not included in the pre-installed database.

The velocity of propagation factor, also known as VoP, is adjustable from 0 to 0.99. This parameter is essential for adapting the measurement to the real characteristics of the cable, because signal propagation speed changes according to the insulation material, cable construction and conductor type. Correct setting of the velocity factor helps achieve more reliable measurements, especially when working with non-standard cables or long cable runs.

The device supports cable cross-sections from 0.25 mm² to 16 mm² and includes many cable types in its database, such as Cat3, Cat5, CAT5e, CAT6, Cat6a, CAT7, CAT7a, RG58, RG59, RG6, RG6U coaxial cables and several electrical cable configurations including H05, H07, NYM, NYY, SIHF-J, YSLY-JZ and other types used in installation, automation, electrical distribution and industrial wiring. This wide compatibility makes the instrument suitable for use across several technical sectors.

The cable connection is made via BNC socket or 4 mm laboratory sockets, which can be used with the supplied crocodile clips. This dual connection option allows the user to work with both coaxial cables and standard electrical cables, quickly adapting the instrument to the required inspection task. In workshops, on construction sites or during maintenance work, the practical connection system reduces preparation time and allows measurements to be taken in just a few seconds.

The 2.8" colour LCD provides clear reading of the results and makes menu navigation easier. The multilingual interface supports intuitive operation even in international environments or when the device is used by different operators. The internal memory can store up to 100 measurements, a useful function for repetitive checks, reel inspections, technical documentation or comparison between different cable runs.

The USB-C interface enables data connection and power supply at 5 V DC 500 mA. The integrated 2500 mAh battery provides an operating time of up to approximately 20 hours, depending on display brightness and working conditions. The IP50 protection class protects the device against dust under normal operating conditions, while the compact format, 165 x 85 x 32 mm dimensions and approximately 255 g weight make it suitable for mobile use.

For reliable measurements, it is advisable to select the correct cable type from the database or manually set the velocity of propagation factor when the cable value is known. Before measuring, it is important to ensure that the cable is not connected to external voltage and that the ends are properly connected. In the case of reels, installed runs or cables with branches, multiple measurements should be compared and the cable configuration should be checked against the selected measuring method.

The PCE-CLT 100 is therefore a professional solution for measuring cable lengths, checking warehouse stock, verifying installations, estimating remaining cable on reels, diagnosing interruptions and identifying short circuits.
