The portable digital durometer is a highly specialized tool for measuring material hardness. Using the Leeb rebound principle, this device provides precise and reliable readings across a wide range of metallic surfaces. The Leeb technology allows measurements in any direction: horizontal, vertical, upward, and downward, making the instrument extremely versatile.
After selecting the appropriate probe, you need to position the device on the sample to perform the test. The surface roughness of the piece must be checked: for the D probe, a roughness of up to 2μm is required, while for the G probe, up to 7μm is needed. It is essential that the piece has a minimum thickness of 3 mm and a mass of at least 5 kg to ensure accurate readings. If the piece is lighter, a solid support is necessary for precise measurement. Additionally, the convex/concave radius must be ≥ 30 mm to correctly test the hardness.
To use the durometer, an adequate support and a testing surface that meets roughness and thickness requirements are necessary. The device is powered by two AA batteries and features a color TFT display for clear result visualization. With an accuracy and repeatability of ±0.5% at HL=800, this durometer provides high-quality results. The internal memory can store up to 10,000 readings, and the USB data output allows easy transfer of collected data.
The applications of this instrument are diverse and include checking the hardness of materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, bronze, and copper. It is particularly useful in sectors like metalworking and tool manufacturing, where material hardness must be precisely monitored. With its ability to measure various hardness units, the portable digital durometer is essential for ensuring the quality and performance of tested materials.
Hardness units such as HL, HRB, HRC, HV, HB, and HS represent different methods of measuring material hardness. HL (Leeb) measures hardness via rebound, while HRB and HRC are Rockwell scales for hard and soft materials. HV (Vickers) and HB (Brinell) use diamond tips and spheres to test hardness. HS denotes Shore hardness. The tensile strength range up to 2000 MPa measures how much a material can withstand tension before breaking.
