TiAlN Coated solid carbide taps for through holes, metric thread M2–M16 for hardened ateels 55/60 HRC
(Incl. Tax: €92.23)
The solid carbide taps are designed for threading through holes in hardened and high-hardness materials, especially steels with hardness values of 55/60 HRC and 50/55 HRC. The solid carbide construction provides high rigidity, wear resistance and dimensional stability during machining, which are essential when working on hard, abrasive or difficult-to-thread materials. The geometry with form D chamfer, chamfer angle α= 8°, straight flute angle 0° and TiAlN coating is designed to produce controlled, accurate and repeatable threads, reducing the risk of premature wear, cutting-edge chipping and poor thread quality.
These taps are suitable for CNC machines, machining centres, automatic machines and rigid tapping applications where synchronisation between feed and spindle rotation is required. Their use on through holes allows the chips to evacuate forward, reducing accumulation in the cutting area and improving process continuity. The straight flute geometry is suitable when tap stability, axial control and accurate thread generation are required, especially on hardened steels, highly alloyed steels and materials with high mechanical strength.
The TiAlN coating improves thermal and oxidation resistance of the cutting edges, making these taps suitable for demanding machining conditions with high heat generation and difficult materials. The coating helps reduce abrasive and adhesive wear, supporting longer tool life and more consistent thread quality. Cutting speeds must be selected according to material hardness: for steels with 55/60 HRC, indicative values of 2/5 m/min are recommended; for steels with 50/55 HRC, 5/10 m/min; for highly alloyed steels, around 25 m/min; and for other materials, 25/45 m/min. These values must always be adapted to the machine, clamping system, lubrication and workpiece stability.
The correct version must be selected according to thread size M, hole diameter Ø, overall length L, useful length L2, shank diameter d1, square Q, chamfer length L1 and number of cutting edges Z. The available range covers metric threads from M2 to M16, with recommended hole diameters from Ø= 1.60 mm to Ø= 14.20 mm. For reliable results, the hole must be prepared correctly, the tapping drill diameter must be respected, and rigid, coaxial clamping must be ensured with precise tap holders. Machine alignment and axial play must also be checked. Correct application reduces the risk of tap breakage, pitch errors, incomplete threads, seizure and geometric defects, improving threading quality in mechanical workshops, mould making, industrial maintenance, automotive production and precision machining of hardened steels.
