Cermet corner radius end mills for super finishing, with Z4 4-flute geometry, 38° helix, frontal cutting capability and radius r= 0.2–0.5 mm. Available with d1h8= 3–12 mm, they are suitable for wall finishing, shoulders, pockets, flat surfaces and controlled corner radii. The corner radius improves edge strength and surface quality. Precise toolholding, low runout, stable workpiece clamping and light passes are required to achieve accuracy and consistent finishing.
40CER Cermet corner radius end mills for super finishing, Z4, 38° helix, radius r= 0.2–0.5 mm

The 40CER cermet corner radius end mills are designed for super finishing operations on CNC machining centres, automatic machines and conventional machine tools where high surface quality, dimensional accuracy and stable profile control are required. The 4-flute geometry with 38° helix and frontal cutting capability provides smooth and progressive machining, making these tools suitable for finishing vertical walls, shoulders, profiles, pockets, flat surfaces and controlled corner radii. The corner radius r= 0.2 mm or r= 0.5 mm reduces stress concentration on the cutting edge, improves edge strength and helps achieve more uniform surfaces compared with sharp-corner end mills.

The corner radius geometry is especially useful when the machining process requires a balance between geometric accuracy and surface finish. The radius at the tool tip helps control the transition between bottom and wall, reducing the risk of marks, micro-chipping and visible machining lines on the workpiece. The frontal cutting edge allows bottom finishing and face machining, while the peripheral cutting edges control walls, profiles and shoulders. Compared with a flat sharp-corner end mill, the corner radius version provides higher edge strength; compared with a ball nose cutter, it allows better flat-bottom control and more direct machining of planar surfaces.

Cermet is suitable for finishing and super finishing applications where cutting-edge stability, low adhesion tendency and consistent surface quality are required. It is particularly suitable for steels, alloy steels, construction steels, cast irons and materials where precise surfaces and reduced burr formation are important. It is generally not the first choice for heavy roughing, unstable conditions or highly interrupted cutting, where tougher solid carbide tools with more robust geometries are usually preferred. For best performance, light passes, stable machine conditions, rigid workpiece clamping and parameters matched to the tool diameter are recommended. The indicative parameters for this series are, depending on diameter, n= 3,500 - 10,000 rpm and F= 1,000 - 3,000 mm/min, always to be adapted to material, clamping, coolant strategy and system stability.

To achieve consistent super finishing, precise and rigid toolholding systems are essential, such as high-quality collet chucks, shrink-fit holders or high-precision clamping systems, with low runout and limited tool overhang. Misalignment, insufficient tool clamping or unstable workpiece holding can generate vibration, premature edge wear, surface marks, dimensional errors and loss of quality on the corner radius. These end mills are suitable for mechanical workshops, mould making, precision metalworking, technical components, CNC finishing operations and applications where surface quality, profile stability and radius accuracy are critical.
