The end mills for flat screw sockets with a cylindrical shank, according to standard UNI 6841, are cutting tools designed to create the profile of the heads of screws UNI 5931 and UNI 5932 within a hole. These tools are made of HSSE material and feature four right-hand flutes with a 25° angle, allowing for the action of four cutting edges to remove various materials, such as steel. In the case of harder materials, such as titanium or heat-treated steels of HRC50 or higher, it is advisable to consult experts for technical support. Milling the seats for socket screws is used to reduce bulk in assembly groups and conceal the heads of the screws, increasing the safety of the assembly.

What are cylindrical shank flat screw seat milling cutters. UNI 6841

Laminating tools, or flat screw seat milling cutters, are cutting tools used to profile the head of a UNI 5931 and UNI 5932 screw within the bore of a workpiece so as to avoid or reduce the protrusion of the head of the socket screw.

How the cutters are made

The cutters are made from HSSE material and are stripped with 4 helixes right a 25° angle, thus making 4 cutting edges that generate the removal of material that can be steel or any other material.

For particularly hard materials such as Titanium, hardened steels HRC50 or higher, nickel alloys or other special materials, it is preferable to seek technical advice from Tadaah who will provide the necessary technical support before purchase.
Why are millings for Allen screw seats performed.

This machining is used for reducing the footprint of assembly assemblies, make the heads perfectly hidden by the protrusion of surfaces. The benefit is manifold and can be briefly summarized as:

Increased safety. For example, this type of processing allows rotary joints to be joined while preventing the protrusion of the screws from becoming an additional handhold or hook that could injure the operator.

Aesthetic beautification of mounting assemblies Since screws are not protruding, aesthetically the mounting assemblies have a more linear and uniform aesthetic beautification

Support and reference point for surfaces. In case the surfaces are machined by machine tools, the machining of the seat allows the face of the surface to be used for support, manipulation of the assembled assemblies without grips caused by the protrusion of the screw heads.

TECH TIP.  The thickness of the head corresponds exactly to the nominal diameter of the screw (example: M8 screw, nominal diameter d=8, head thickness t=8)
