The interchangeable cuspids are precision inserts for rotating tailstocks with or without compression stroke 172.600–172.600F. They allow rapid adaptation of the workpiece support geometry to different operations while maintaining secure and repeatable centering over time.

Cuspids in hardened steel provide high wear resistance and are suitable for most turning and grinding operations on construction steels, alloyed steels, or normalized steels. The 172.601 HM version with hard metal insert is recommended for hard or abrasive materials and intensive production cycles, where longer support tip life is required.

The various available shapes allow selecting the geometry best suited to the workpiece: cuspids with 60° for standard centering, cylindrical–conical profiles for wider support surfaces.
